Data Management & Information Quality Conferences 2008 |
| |
Held every year at the end October / early November, the event
is three conferences in one:
Information Quality Conference
Dama International Conference Europe
Meta Data Europe Conference
Impressions of last year's event from Daragh O'Brien, Director
Publicity & Recruitment, IAIDQ:
"Last week saw the annual DM&IQ conferences in London(hosted by IRMUK). Yet again it was
an excellent event with lots of very interesting presentations from the coal face of
information quality. As I was presenting it wouldn't be fair for me to single out other
presenters for comment, but all the sessions I saw were excellent and bode well for the
level of thinking in the profession.
From an IAIDQ point of view it was a very good event with lots of interest in the Association, and a large
number of members joining during the two days of exhibits. We were well served by a team from the British
Isles Community of Practice and other members (including Dr. Walid el Abed) who manned the IAIDQ's stand at
the exhibit and did a great job 'selling' the IAIDQ.
A strong sense I got from this conference, as with San Antonio, was that our time is now and that the Association
is maturing at the right time for the Profession and for society. Certainly the comments and feedback from the General
meeting were very positive and there was a lot of interest in our planned certification work.
The crunch is biting, but all around me I see massive opportunities for the Information/Data Quality profession. Whether
it is the clear value of information that can be seen in how Obama won the US election or the increasingly obvious drives
to bring increased trust and transparency to certain industries, the role of information in the post-crunch economy cannot
be underestimated.
And an information asset is only of value if it is of good quality. Let's start building the new information economy."
