The 2nd IDM/DMA West Digital Conference. Bristol. Friday 23 January 2009 |
| |
There may be those who assume regional events are in some way second division or B-team efforts.
Any such sceptics attending this conference in Bristol would have been rapidly disabused of such a notion.
Subtitled "Digital: The right media at the right time" this was a day packed with excellent presentations ranging
across the spectrum from detailed case studies to some wide ranging and novel think-pieces on the impact and nature
of new media. As one other delegate said " there's usually some point at these events when your concentration dips a
bit, but today every one of the speakers has held my attention completely."
For all of us based in the South West, an event of this calibre without the concommitant trek to London was very
welcome. The University of West England was, like all university venues, not sumptuous but workmanlike and with plenty
of space, the food was good and the lecture hall was, unsurprisingly, ideally suited to the format of the day. In fact it
had capacity for a bigger audience, and if the quality of these events continues at this level then the 3rd and 4th West
Digital Conferences should see that capacity being filled.
I'd rate this one of the best value conferences I have been to in the last couple of years, with the full price for the day set
at £129, and the IDM members price a steal at £99. Look out for the next one, and if you went to this one and got as much
out of it as I did, tell your friends - they'll thank you for it..
